In the textile industry, Sodium Silicate and/or Sodium Metasilicate Pentahydrate is used as stabilizer for hydrogen peroxide in the cotton bleaching process and in jeans washing and stone washing, because of its action as scavenger of iron, manganese and copper. Since it is alkaline, it has a detergent and buffering action, removing soil, oils and grease from the cloth and working as a anti-re deposition agent.
Silicate also helps in the washing process as a buffering agent, keeping the pH level required for the process.
